    Dear Ralph Nader

Are you kidding me? Are you f’n kidding me? What’s with the ego, man? Would you rather your legacy be consumer safety or egotistical douche bag?

Oh, and Matt Gonzalez, you are dead to me. And you look just as insane as Nader in that photo, FYI.

    The Final Line

Dear readers, I’m working on my final project for school, a fashion line of eight garments. The clothes have to be well-made and the patterns must be production-ready. It’s exciting and a lot of work and I’m not freaking out yet.

More than two years ago I started the pattern-making program, a shift from the editorial path I’d carved. I marked that milestone with a tattoo. Now I’m finishing school and celebrating with a trip to Paris.

Earlier today I received an email:
“Dear Molly, Your taxi is reserved. The taxi will have the keys and will drive you at the apartment. He will wait for you at the end of the customs with a sign of your name.”

I have always wanted to go to Paris and I’ve always wanted to walk off a long flight and see a sign with my name on it. It’s too exciting to think about right now; I have beautiful things to make.

    Wish me luck, mon chers.

    Carol Burnett On Oprah

Carol Burnett is one of my idols — you should know that already. But you probably don’t know that I’m an Oprah Winfrey fan. Seriously. I am. She is a force. I TiVo her show daily and watch on average of two episodes per week, often as background during hand-sewing or laundry-folding. Today Carol Burnett was on the Oprah show.

Burnett is a voice in the new Dr. Seuss movie, Horton Hears A Who. Jim Carrey is another voice in that movie. When Burnett did her famed Tarzan yell, Carrey said “See, to me, that’s like seeing Led Zepplin.”

    Yes indeed.

    Library Of Congress On Flickr

The Library of Congress is uploading pictures to flickr! There’s a set of early color photos from the 1930s and ’40s and they’re gorgeous.

Look, there’s Copper Hill, Tenn., where I took a day trip on a train as a child. Nothing grew there — no trees, no grass — on account of the mining and sulfuric acid. It was like being on Mars only we were still in Tennessee.

Circus girlies! I just read Water For Elephants and there was a “coochie” tent in that too.

I’m still going through these photos — there’s too much to see and I want to enjoy them bite by bite. They’re intense and I’m enjoying them immensely. Also: Rosie the riveter! Check out her manicure. Yes!
